Exit State and Farewill, side by side

Both write a will online for England and Wales. The difference that matters to most people is what it costs and what happens after you have written it, so that is what is on this page. Every figure in the right-hand column is Farewill's own published price, read off their pricing page on the date above.

Farewill prices from farewill.com/pricing on 8 September 2026. Their price includes a check by their team, and their telephone service includes writing it with somebody on a call. Exit State is self-serve: nobody here reads your will, and there is no phone option. Prices change — check theirs before you decide.

What the £79 covers here

  • Write the whole will and read it back before you decide anything
  • The finished PDF, plus a witness pack that says exactly what to do
  • Rewrite it and download it again whenever life changes, at no charge
  • Funeral wishes, letters, the digital estate list and a memorial page
  • A dashboard your executor is given when they need it
  • No renewal date, no card kept on file, nobody rings you

Two of you, £129, paid by one of you

Two wills that mirror each other, for you and your partner. One payment covers both, and when one of you changes something the other is told. It is not one document with two names on it — that is not a thing English law recognises. It is a will each, with a login each, so either of you can change yours without asking the other. What the pair adds is that neither of you finds out by accident: when one will changes, the other person is told in plain English what changed.

  • A will each, not one document you share
  • Your partner gets their own login and can change theirs
  • Both told, in plain English, when the other changes anything
  • Everything the single will includes, twice over
  • Paid once, by one of you, for life

The pair is offered when you unlock, not before, so there is nothing to decide until you have both wills written and can read them back. If you buy one will now and marry later, the second is £50 at that point rather than £129 again.

When neither of us is the right answer

See a solicitor if you hold assets in a trust, if you own property outside England and Wales, if you are leaving out somebody who depends on you financially, if inheritance tax is likely to be a live question, or if a beneficiary cannot manage money themselves. A fixed-price form is the wrong tool for those, whoever sells it to you.

Whichever you use, a will made in England and Wales is not valid until you have signed it in ink while two adults watch, both in the room at the same time, and neither of them is somebody you have left anything to. That is the Wills Act 1837, and no online service changes it.
